There’s no better introduction to a city than hopping on a City Sightseeing Bus Tour! This bus tour allows you to hop on and off, at various stops around the city, so you gain as much as possible, from this inspiring location, during your stay.
This tour starts at Oban Railway Station and heads north to view the Falls of Lora under Connel Bridge. From here, the tour heads back into Oban en-route to Ellenabeich, taking in the breathtaking views of Loch Feochan - the bridge over the atlantic and Easdale Island.
Oban used to be a small fishing and trading village until the early Victorian era, when it became the main point of departure for the Western Isles and a regular stop-off point for steam ships linking Inverness with Glasgow. McCaig's Tower - or McCaig's Folly - built by local banker, McCaig in 1897, looks over the town and is one of Oban’s most significant landmarks, probably because of it’s size and similarity to the Colosseum. The reason for its creation was to provide work for local stonemasons and provide a lasting monument to his family. A climb to the top, to see the spectacular views, is well worth it!
The distillation of whisky, in Oban, predates the town. Discover the museum at the Oban Distillery, behind the main seafront, where whisky has been produced on the site since 1794. As this wasn’t enough reason to visit Oban, there’s also something for the adrenaline junkies to discover - gorge walking, canyoning, canoeing, kayaking, archery and coasteering. You’ll also find several boat trips which tour around the local isles of Mull, Iona and Staffa.
There are also many restaurants and pubs to choose from so you’ll never find yourself short of things to do in Oban. You can discover an evening of live entertainment; a taste of traditional Scottish dancing, music, folk songs and a friendly atmosphere for the whole family. This is just a snap-shot of amazing things to see and do in this fantastic city!
